Welcome 2017-2018 Parents & Students!

Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a relaxing and fun summer vacation with your kiddos. I would like to extend an official welcome to each family represented in my class. I am very excited to have the opportunity to influence your child this year. To make the year a successful one, I hope that each of us (parents, teacher, and student) can work together as a team. You are always encouraged to share in your child’s education. I have provided some information regarding this years expectations and classroom information below.

RULES:
  1. Stay on task at all times. #nofreedays
  2. Wait for permission to speak or to get out of your seat unless it’s an emergency. #chillout

PROCEDURES:


  1. Do not wait to be told to get busy. Start warm up as soon as you get in class.
  2. Learn something NEW every day & keep a POSITIVE mindset.
  3. Arrive on time. Do not be tardy.
  4. Complete ALL work, a low grade is better than no grade.
  5. Exhibit behaviors which permit the teacher to teach and others to learn without an interruption.

Holocaust Web Quest

The time period when Hitler was in power in Germany was a time filled with heartache and many terrible events. There were many reasons why things happened the way they did, and why Hitler and the Nazi party was not stopped sooner. I want you to discover some of the historical setting of the play we are going to read together about Anne Frank.

Visit the following sites, and answer all the questions in complete sentences on a separate piece of paper.


1. Define "genocide" in your own words.
2. When we refer to the "holocaust", what time period are we talking about?

3. What levels of German society were most drawn to Hitler and the Nazi Party?

4. What was Hitler's term for the "master race"? Describe this type of person.
5. What types of German citizens were victims of the Nazi Party?

6. Define anti-Semitism.
7. When did it begin?

15. How many ghettos existed in German occupied territories?
16. Describe the largest ghetto.

17. Describe the picture and say how people are treated.

18. Describe how the conditions worsened.
19. What does Abe do? Where does he go? Why?

20. What were the first Nazi concentration camps?

30. If you were going to teach others about the importance of studying the holocaust, what would you include?

Now it's time to look a little closer at the life of Anne Frank. Visit the Anne Frank Museum to learn more about how she grew up. Read each section and take careful note of the pictures that accompany the text.
